Song #3

High On Six Strings

By: Tim Schmidt

SONG MEANING:
This song is an old school, rock & roll anthem. The simple message is this. I don’t need any of the extras or distractions in my life. I just need music. I don’t need much of anything, because I get HIGH on my guitar. I get high on six strings!

I wrote this song back in 1989 when I was 18 years old. I was in a high school rock band and the summer before we all went off to college, I wrote a half dozen songs. This song was the only good one. (At least in my opinion!)

The funny thing was that as I listened to the lyrics that I had originally wrote back in 1989, I realized that there was no way I could record the song as it was! Why? Well, the verse lyrics were ridiculous! They were the ranting of an 18 year old kid who didn’t know much about how the real world worked.

So, on a flight from Nashville to Palm Beach, I re-wrote all four verses! (I changed the chorus a little bit as well.)

The bottom line is that now I LOVE this song and the verses resonate with my heart.

This is a photo of Jon Stangel, Adam Lester and me. We’re listening to the playback for the tracking of High on Six Strings. Jon is a good friend of mine who was the bass player in my high school rock band. Adam is one of the professional musicians (guitars) I hired from Nashville.

LYRICS & MUSIC:
Here’s what my version of this song chart looks like. These are some old school "Cowboy Chords” here. You can play this song even if you just started playing guitar a few months ago! That’s the way I like my music.
